COMMON QUESTIONS PRIMER
While the paint is supposed to deliver color, the primer’s job is to best prepare the surface for painting. Priming helps solve a wide range of problems including a very porous surface (like new drywall or masonry), stains, unwanted odors, uneven surfaces and texture differences, and adhesion problems (paint having difficulty sticking to the surface) are the most common issues.
When choosing a primer, it is important to recognize the condition of the surface which you intend to paint and the issues which may prevent you from achieving optimal results. For most situations and non-severe problems, one of our multi-surface primers are well suited to prepare the surface for painting. However certain more severe situations may require a primer specially engineered for those cases.
There are different types of primers formulated to solve different problems which may exist on the surface to be painted. Most of the time for typical painting needs, our multi-surface primers like KILZ 2 ALL PURPOSE and KILZ Premium (water based) or KILZ Original (oil based) will do the job. However, to address more serious problems, KILZ has a primer to address those specific issues.
