Interior | Decorative | Easy Application

Easily add history and character to any surface with KILZ® CHALK STYLE PAINT. It goes on thick, for excellent hide, and requires very little surface preparation. Depending on the vision you have for the project, simply apply 1 or 2 coats on a clean, dust-free, or lightly sanded surface. To enhance durability, seal the surface afterward with KILZ® CLEAR SEALING WAX. An “antique” look can be achieved by applying two contrasting colors, distressed with sandpaper, and sealed with KILZ® DARK SEALING WAX.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not all chalk paints are created equal I bought Kilz Chalk paint thinking all chalk paints were the same. I bought it because it was cheaper. Big mistake! I'm not going to bother applying a second coat. This project is costing me more money and time in the long run.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Chalk Paint! This went on so watery! It took forever between coats and I had to do about 5. My project took way longer than it should’ve.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as good as the designer brand chalk paint... I recently applied Kilz Chalk paint (in white) to an old wooden filing cabinet I picked up from a yard sale. The cabinet was REALLY dark wood so after I sanded I applied two thin layers of the Kilz 2 all purpose primer. After priming I sanded the piece gently with 220 sand paper and added my first coat of chalk paint. I tend to paint thin coats to limit drips in the paint. I only dip my brush about an inch into the paint and wipe off most on the side of the paint can. I don't like to rush the process since redoing furniture is a lot of work and I want it to look good the first time. So, to be honest, the first coat looked awful. I could easily see my brush strokes and the dark wood color bled through in a few spots. I waited 24 hours before adding my second coat and what a difference. The piece looked nothing like the original. After the second thoroughly dried I did see a few small areas where a third coat was needed but in retrospect I think I should have added thicker layers of the primer and wouldn't have had to apply so many layers of the paint. After the third layer dried I again sanded (by hand) with 220 sand paper to smooth out the surface and eliminate any drip marks. I finished up the cabinet using Kilz clear wax as well as the dark wax to give the piece an antiqued look. I am so happy with the results. The cabinet looks amazing. I have already recommended the Kilz chalk paint to many of my friends. I love how it is easily available at my local Wal-Mart vs. buying it at specialty shop. One quart of paint was more than enough for me to complete the entire 4 drawer filing cabinet, I even painted the insides of the drawers. The small wax container had me nervous but a little goes a long way and I even had wax leftover. I was so happy with the product I purchased a second quart yesterday to repurpose some baskets I picked up at a thrift store. The only "con" I have is I wish the chalk paint was available in a dark brown color, like a chocolate or espresso color.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too many coats and still showing wood streaks I bought the Kilz brand instead of Annie Sloan, to see if there was the same “bang for less buck”. Took 4 coats on a light wood surface and I still have some slight showing of the wood. Will sand once it dries and do some distressing. Hopefully the end result is just as good, after waxing. If not, I recommend sanding your piece prior to, for max coverage in less coats, and to give you a nice solid finish.
