Rated 5 out of 5 by from Covered Bleed Through I recently scraped down a popcorn ceiling and revealed unpainted brown sheetrock, which was new to me but it was brown. I bought a shelf brand PVA primer and applied 2 coats and that didn't work. Then I used a different primer and applied 1 coat and still had the bleed through and it seemed to get worse with the more coats I applied. After doing a Google search, it was suggested Kilz oil base primer. At this point, I didn't know what else to do other than take down the old sheetrock and put up new sheetrock, so I tried this Kilz oil base primer. As you see from the photos. 1 photo is untreated. 1 photo has 3 coats of other primer and still had bleed through. Then I have 3 photos to show how the Kilz oil based primer covered it all. I did apply 2 coats of Kilz and it worked very well.
