Interior | Decorative | Easy Application

Easily add history and character to any surface with KILZ® CHALK STYLE PAINT. It goes on thick, for excellent hide, and requires very little surface preparation. Depending on the vision you have for the project, simply apply 1 or 2 coats on a clean, dust-free, or lightly sanded surface. To enhance durability, seal the surface afterward with KILZ® CLEAR SEALING WAX. An “antique” look can be achieved by applying two contrasting colors, distressed with sandpaper, and sealed with KILZ® DARK SEALING WAX.

KILZ® CHALK STYLE PAINT is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Clumpy I have used various chalk paints before and decided to try the kilz brand because of cost. I opened up ready to paint my dining table and found large clumps of paint at the bottom of the can requiring several minutes of stirring and mixing. Unfortunately right when I thought it was smooth and applied to the table it left clumps and unevenness even after a second coat. Very very disappointed in the product. Going to have to sand and repaint with another product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super easy to apply! The Chalk Pain by KILZ is amazing. I have always wanted to try playing around with this paint but was worried it would be a messy expense. I loved the texture and the way it looks after only two simple coats. My kids love it!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hard to use I thought this as good going on but it doesn’t dry evenly- when after two coats I got it presentable, the polyacrlic was a nightmare. I wish I could strip it and start again but too much work and not enough time. Not pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent I have used several high end, EXPENSIVE chalk paints in the past and Kilz is my new favorite. Easy to use, finish is beautiful.... I’m sold!!! Very very impressed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Large thick clumps in the bottom of the can This was very difficult to work with. The large thick lumps in the bottom of the can was very difficult to blend to a smooth consistency. I had to mix water with the paint to get it to glide on & not drag. I love the color, however the paint quality is lacking☹️

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Clumpy Clumpy Clumpy and not mixed! I paint furniture for a living and have tried every chalk paint out there. I wanted to like the Kilz. I love the toasted poppyseed color. I was impressed with the colors that Kilz offers. I was hoping that the paint would be good be good, since I like the price. I was really unimpressed with how the paint was not mixed properly and clumpy. I spent about 25 minutes shaking and stirring the paint, and it still wasn't mixed properly. I feel like for my time the cost savings over other paints might not be worth it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not mixed I was excited to try this paint and I come to find out it wasn’t mixed. The job of the consumer is to stir the paint but not to have to mix it. To my surprise there were large clumps of white paint sitting at the bottom of the can. This by only mean that the paint wasn’t mixed properly, but also the color was wrong because a lot of white paint was not mixed in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Coverage on All Pieces One quart covered a 5 foot wide console table with 3 coats, a large mirror frame and 2 candlesticks with 2 coats, and a small side table with a little to spare. If someone experienced bleeding it’s because they didn’t shellac or primer it first. Certain things bleed regardless of brand used. I also used Kilz primer on one piece that had a thrift store odor which is gone now! This paint when on easily, and any brushstrokes by me dried smooth as if by magic. Need more colors!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poor coverage Maybe it’s because I’m a novice , but I found this and was excited to use it! I have used different brands of chalk paint before and have never had to use this many coats (3 with substantial bleed through) I used shellac after the 2nd coat. A little disappointing...especially because of the size of the project I am doing... back to the drawing board

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product gives great results. This paint gave fabulous results. Good quality for a reasonable price. Color was perfect and the old dresser I painted transformed into a beautiful piece of furniture. The only issue I had, was it dries very fast and I had trouble with drag marks. I worked at a pretty good pace and couldn’t touch up problem areas without seeing drag marks in the paint. However, the end result was very nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product We had painted kitchen cabinets with a different product and even though we sanded them, they were older cabinets and a grease like color seeped through. I bought kiltz chalk paint and repainted the cabinets and had great results. The product covered in one coat!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value for small projects I've tried many different brands of chalk style paints, for the price point this one was good for small projects and knick knacks but I wasn't as happy with the finished product on a larger furniture size piece.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible outcomes I have used every chalk paint on the market. I ordered a quart of Kilz to try it out on a couple of small furniture pieces because it was less expensive than most other brands. I was surprising pleased at the outcome. From the color to the smooth flowing consistency to the durability of the finished piece. I’m certain I will never purchase another chalk paint other than Kilz. Kilz Corp. you have done an outstanding job. Please don’t change a thing (especially the price). Thanks, Renee’

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Difficult I bought this product to paint one portion of a wall in my kitchen. The paint itself was difficult to spread across the wall. I then had to buy a second can again for a small portion of a wall. After it dried, I applied the sealing wax with a towel how it suggests and it removed some of the paint. After drawing on it and then cleaning off the paint, there is an incomplete clean look to it.

Where to Use

KILZ® CHALK STYLE PAINT can be applied over most existing finishes with little surface preparation. Use to “up-cycle” vintage furniture. Apply to old or new wood, cast stone, concrete, or even metal surfaces†. Do not use on horizontal surfaces subject to foot traffic.

Surface Preparation

Preparation Makes Perfect!

  • Before applying KILZ® CHALK STYLE PAINT, clean the surface to make sure it is free of loose or peeling paint, mold and mildew stains, rust and all other dirt and debris.

  • We recommend lightly sanding glossy surfaces and repairing any imperfections.

  • Remove all dust with a damp cloth and allow to dry.

  • Use KILZ® CHALK STYLE PAINT on properly prepared uncoated or painted interior surfaces.
  • For wood that contains tannins, such as Redwood and Cedar, a coat of primer such as KILZ PREMIUM Interior/Exterior water-based primer is recommended.

  • †For optimal adhesion to difficult surfaces, use KILZ PREMIUM Primer.

  • Follow the instructions on the back of the primer label and top coat it with KILZ CHALK STYLE PAINT.

  • Shake the container thoroughly before opening for application.

  • Use on properly prepared surfaces.

  • Use product when the surface and air temperatures are between 50-90°F and will remain in that range for at least 4 hours after applying.

  • For application, use a Nylon/Polyester brush or a high density foam roller.

  • Up to 100 sq. ft. of coverage per quart with two coats.

  • If you find this product to be too thick, add up to 2 oz. of water per quart to thin it to the desired thickness for smooth and easy application.

Dry Time

  • Dries less than 1 hour; recoat after 2 hours.

  • Longer dry time required in cooler temperatures and higher humidity.

Clean-up & Disposal

  • Clean all tools and equipment with clean water.

  • For disposal of empty containers and unused product, contact your household refuse collection service.
