PREPARATION AND APPLICATION

Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines® Wood Stain delivers oil-like performance without the odor in a thick, fast-drying water-based formula. This product is available in a curated palette, hand-picked by Joanna Gaines to enhance the natural beauty of your interior wood surfaces. Tint this product to any one of the colors in the 12-color palette, and transform your interior wood surface(s) to their new, beautiful color.

PREPARATION

  • All surfaces must be clean, free of dust, oil, grease, wax, polish, glue and existing coatings before staining. To ensure the best results and consistent absorption of the stain into the wood, start by using Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines Pre-Stain Conditioner and follow all label instructions.
  • New Wood: Sand with #120-grit sandpaper followed by #180-grit or finer for a smoother finish if desired. Remove all dust.
  • Previously Finished Wood: Lightly sand surface with a 400-grit sandpaper. Remove all dust.

APPLICATION

  • Stir stain thoroughly before and occasionally during use. Do not thin. Always test stain on an inconspicuous area of the wood to verify desired color. Apply stain in the direction of the grain with a brush or clean cloth. Allow the stain to penetrate up to 5 minutes to achieve desired color. The more time the stain is allowed to penetrate, the richer and darker the color will be. Remove stain that has not absorbed into the wood with a clean cloth. Wipe in the direction of the grain, while blending light and dark areas to obtain uniform color. Do not allow stain that has not penetrated into the wood to dry on the wood surface. To darken the color, apply a second coat after 1 hour, repeating directions above. Do not sand between coats of stain. Allow stain to dry for a minimum of 1 hour (dry time may be longer due to high humidity, low temperatures, or inadequate ventilation) before applying a Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines clear protective finish.

CAUTIONS/LIMITATIONS

  • Protect from freezing.
  • Always test stain on an inconspicuous area of the wood to verify desired color.
  • Shelf life under normal conditions is two years unopened.
  • Slight ambering may occur when these clear finishes are applied over light-colored stains. Always spot test on an inconspicuous area to ensure satisfactory results.
