Preparation

Proper surface preparation is required.

  • New or Unpainted Surfaces: New concrete must cure for a minimum of 30 days.

  • Test for loose, flaking concrete by pressing a piece of masking or cellophane tape at various places, then pull it off with an abrupt action. If the tape does not pull the concrete from the surface, it can be painted. If the existing concrete is removed, the loose concrete should be removed down to a sound substrate. Prime all uncoated, patched, chalky, and adjacent wood and/or metal surfaces with KILZ Premium Primer.

  • Painted Surfaces: PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES IN GOOD, REPAINTABLE CONDITION MAY BE PAINTED WITH KILZ Basement & Masonry Waterproofing Paint, HOWEVER, MASTERCHEM WILL NOT GUARANTEE THE RESULTS.

  • For below grade application: All holes or cracks must be properly patched with a fast-setting hydraulic cement.

  • For above grade application: Remove mildew stains with a mildew stain removing product. All surfaces must be clean and free of dirt, dust, efflorescence and oil. For best results, clean surface with a product such as KILZ Concrete & Masonry Degreaser & Cleaner.

Application

  • DO NOT DILUTE. Stir well before use. Use with adequate ventilation.

  • For best results, apply when air and surface temperatures are between 50-90°F.

  • Apply to dry or slightly damp masonry walls. Wipe off any visible moisture with a dry cloth before painting.

  • Apply using a high quality 1/2"-3/4" nap roller, 4" nylon/polyester brush or an airless sprayer capable of delivering 2200-3200 PSI or greater using a .023"-.025" spray tip.

  • A minimum of two coats are required: First Coat: Using a brush or roller, work the waterproofer onto the surface until any all pores or voids are covered. Second Coat: Using a brush or roller, cover the entire surface. Properly fill any voids left after the first coat. Additional spot application may be needed depending on the porosity of the surface.

  • Important: If leaking is still present after two coats, it indicates that voids or pinholes are still open. Re-apply product to these areas.

  • COVERAGE: Rough surfaces: 75-100 sq. ft; Smooth surface 100-125 sq. ft. Do not apply at a greater spread rate.

Dry Time

  • Wait 1 hour dry to touch; 4 hour recoat. Low temperatures or high humidity conditions will affect drying time. Full cure should be reached in 7-14 days. Fully cured coating can be washed after 7-14 days.

Clean-Up & Disposal

  • Clean equipment and paint spatters with warm, soapy water. If spilled, contain material and remove with an inert absorbent. Dispose of contaminated absorbent, container and unused product in accordance with all current governmental regulations.

  • Do not dispose of this product down a drain. For recycling or disposal information contact your local household refuse collection service.

Cautions / Limitations

  • Do not use on floors.

  • Protect from freezing.

  • For best results, apply at temperatures between 40°F - 90°F. Temperatures above 90°F may affect the application such as drying too fast. Avoid applying in direct sun. NOTE: If the surface is hot to the touch it should be considered too hot to apply this coating.

  • Allow two weeks before washing or cleaning for full cure.

  • Shelf life under normal conditions is two years unopened.
