Preparation

The following steps and products are required.

  • All surfaces must be clean, sound, dry and free of any dirt, oil and grease. Remove mildew stains with a mildew stain removing product such as KILZ Concrete & Masonry Cleaner & Degreaser or KILZ Wood Cleaner & Brightener.

  • Scuff sand any glossy surfaces. If making repairs, use stainless steel or galvanized nails to prevent nail staining. Countersink nail heads, repair imperfections and sand smooth. Remove all dust with a damp cloth, allow to dry.

  • New or Weathered Wood: Prepare surface with KILZ Wood Cleaner & Brightener. Lightly sand to remove remaining wood fibers / fuzz. Prime with KILZ Premium Primer.

  • Painted Wood Surfaces: To strip an old coating, use KILZ Wood Stain & Finish Stripper, then neutralize with KILZ Wood Cleaner & Brightener. For optimal adhesion, apply KILZ Premium Primer before topcoating.

  • Uncoated Concrete or Masonry Surfaces: Allow new surfaces to cure 30 days. Prepare surface with KILZ Concrete & Masonry Cleaner & Etcher. Then prime using KILZ Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer.

  • Painted Concrete or Masonry Surfaces: To clean a painted surface in sound condition, use KILZ Concrete & Masonry Cleaner & Degreaser. To strip an old coating, use KILZ Concrete & Masonry Paint Stripper. Use KILZ Concrete & Masonry Cleaner & Etcher to etch all exposed concrete, followed by KILZ Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer before topcoating.

Application

  • For best results, apply when air and surface temperatures are between 50-90°F.

  • Stir paint occasionally. When working with more than one can of the same product, intermix to ensure color uniformity.

  • Use a high quality 3/8"-1/2" nap roller cover, nylon/polyester brush or an airless sprayer (.015"-.019" spray tip, 60 mesh filter). Spread rates may vary depending on the surface texture, porosity and application method. Apply second coat in the opposite direction of the first. Do not dilute if using a roller or brush; however, if using a sprayer and thinning is required, dilute with water at a rate of no more than 1/2 pint per gallon. Certain colors may require more than one coat to achieve complete hide and coverage.

  • COVERAGE: Rough surfaces: 200-300 sq. ft; Smooth surface 300-400 sq. ft.

Dry Time

  • Dries to touch in 1 Hour; 4-6 Hours to Recoat. Longer dry time required in cooler temperatures and in higher humidity. Allow 72 hours before subjecting to normal use. After 4 weeks, cured paint film may be cleaned with a mild, non-abrasive liquid detergent. Dry paint film provides a mildew resistant finish.

Clean up & Disposal

  • Clean equipment and paint spatters with warm, soapy water. If spilled, contain material and remove with an inert absorbent. Dispose of contaminated absorbent, container and unused product in accordance with all current governmental regulations.

  • Avoid heavy traffic for 24 hours.

  • Allow four weeks before washing or cleaning for full cure.
