Where to Use

NOTE: For vinyl siding, only paint with a color lighter than the original siding color. Do not use on floors.

  • INTERIOR: Walls and ceilings. Excellent for all rooms in the home and office.

  • EXTERIOR: Siding, shutters and fencing.

  • SURFACES: Wood, drywall, masonry and stucco. Do not use on floors.

Surface Preparation

  • All surfaces must be clean, free of dust, chalk, oil, grease, wax, polish, mold and mildew stains, loose and peeling paint, rust and all other foreign substances.

  • Glossy surfaces must be ‘scuff sanded’ with appropriate sandpaper prior to coating.

  • Fill all gaps with a paintable caulking and allow to completely dry prior to coating.

  • Countersink nailheads, fill, and prime with a primer such as KILZ® Premium Primer/sealer/stainblocker.

  • Wash off any dirt, grease and chalk with mild detergent and/or powerwash.

  • Allow new stucco, plaster and masonry to cure for 30 days before painting.

  • Use KILZ IDENTITY Paint as a primer coat for repaired or uncoated surfaces, including woods that contain tannins and heavily stained areas. Lock in stains with the first primer coat; if necessary, apply a second primer coat of KILZ IDENTITY Paint.

  • Apply product when temperatures are between 40-90°F and will remain between 40-90°F for at least 4 hours after applying.

  • Do not paint when rain or heavy condensation is expected within the next 24 hours.

  • Stir paint occasionally. Intermix containers of the same product to ensure color and sheen uniformity.

  • Use a high quality synthetic brush or 3/8" –1/2" nap synthetic roller. For heavily textured surfaces such as stucco, a 3/4" nap roller is recommended or an airless sprayer (.015"-.021" spray tip, 60 mesh filter).

  • Certain colors may require additional coats for complete hide.

  • After 4 weeks, cured paint film may be cleaned with a mild, non-abrasive liquid detergent.

  • When applying to vinyl, color choice must be the same color or lighter than the existing color.

  • Coverage is 250-400 sq. ft. per gallon depending on surface texture, porosity and application method. DO NOT THIN if using a roller or brush; however, if using a sprayer and thinning is required, thin with water at a rate of no more than 1/2 pint per gallon.

How to Achieve a Uniform Coat

  • Use the "V" paint method to maintain a wet edge by applying paint toward the unpainted area and then back into the just-painted area.

  • Repeat "V" with a fully loaded roller for every 2 ft. by 2 ft. area.

  • DO NOT overspread or "stretch" paint. Under-application will affect hide and durability. Do not apply excessive pressure when rolling.

Dry Time

  • Dries to touch in 2 hours (at 77° F and 50% R.H.) or longer in cooler temperatures and/or higher humidity. Recoat in 4 hours.

  • On heavy stains and woods that contain tannins, allow 12-16 hours of dry time between coats. Cooler temperatures or higher humidity may prolong drying time.

Clean-up & Disposal

  • Clean all tools and equipment with clean, soapy water.

  • For disposal of empty containers and unused product, contact your household refuse collection service.

  • To reduce waste, consult with your retailer or an online paint calculator to determine the correct amount of paint to purchase.
