WHAT TO DO
Make sure the area you will be working in is protected from overspray by putting down a drop cloth and covering anything you don’t want to get paint on.
Give the whole bistro set a good “once over" with steel wool and/or sand paper. This will remove any hard-to-get-off dirt or old finishes and also roughen up the surface a little.
After you’ve roughed up the surface, wipe everything down with a damp cloth. Primer won’t stick to dust, so you need to make sure it’s all gone. After wiping, allow the surface to dry.
Apply primer to create a smooth base that will protect the metal and improve your final paint coat. When using aerosols, hold the nozzle about 12 inches away from the surface and move the spray can in long, even strokes as you spray. That will give you the smoothest finish.
Allow 2 hours dry time.
When it’s time to paint, use a paint designed for use on outdoor metal. We suggest, Hammerite®. Spray it on just like the primer. Hold it about 12 inches away and move the can in smooth, controlled horizontal movements. That’s how the pros do it.
Allow 2 hours* dry time. Then call your best friend and invite them over for coffee because you’re all done.
*Dark colours and high humidity areas may have extended dry times
