The following steps and products are required.

  • For failing coatings or to remove loose wood fibers, use a product such as KILZ® Wood Stain & Finish Stripper followed by KILZ® Wood Cleaner & Brightener to neutralize the wood.

  • When KILZ Wood Stain & Finish Stripper is not needed, a product such as KILZ Wood Cleaner & Brightener MUST be used to properly prepare and clean existing or new wood surfaces.

  • After using either KILZ Wood Stain & Finish Stripper or KILZ Wood Cleaner & Brightener, rinse thoroughly with a garden hose or pressure washer.

  • When rinsing with a pressure washer, use the broadest spray pattern while keeping the nozzle at least 0.6 m away from the surface.

  • Allow the area to dry at least 24 hours before coating. Lightly sand to remove remaining wood fibers/fuzz.

  • DO NOT DILUTE. Intermix multiple containers to ensure colour uniformity. Stir product occasionally throughout application.

  • For best results, apply when air and surface temperatures are between 10°C - 32°C. During application, avoid exposure of container to direct sunlight. Do not use if rain is expected within 24 hours. Avoid painting if humidity is expected to be greater than 80%.

  • For nail holes and cracks up to 6 mm, completely fill in with KILZ OVER ARMOUR Textured Coating using a nylon/polyester brush and allow to dry prior to rolling. Deep nail holes and cracks may require additional filling.

  • For edges, corners and in between wood boards, apply using a nylon/polyester brush. Use pressure while rolling and apply a generous, even coat using a 13 mm nap roller. For a smoother texture, use a brush or thinner nap roller (i.e. 6 mm).

  • For vertical wood application such as such as railings, use a nylon/polyester brush or roller and apply two thin coats at a spread rate of 37 m² per 3.79 L.

  • Do not use with airless sprayer. Maintain a wet edge when applying.

  • A SECOND COAT MUST BE APPLIED for optimum performance, film uniformity, leveling and to cover cracks.

Dry Time

  • Wait 4-6 hours before recoating. Dries to touch in 4 hours. Wait 24-48 hours before light foot traffic. 72 hours for full cure. Additional dry time may be needed in cooler temperatures and higher humidity. Premature heavy traffic will cause coating failure.

Clean up & Disposal

  • Clean equipment and paint spatters with warm, soapy water. If spilled, contain material and remove with an inert absorbent. Dispose of contaminated absorbent, container and unused product in accordance with all current governmental regulations.

  • Do not dispose of this product down a drain. Please consider donating any unused product. For recycling or disposal information contact your local household refuse collection service.
